Description
One of 100 copies, this is no. 30 of 79 reserved for members of the Double Crown Club. The Double Crown Club, founded in London in 1924, brought together printers, publishers, book designers, and illustrators, including early members such as typographer Stanley Morison, to exchange ideas on good printing during a “typographical renaissance.” This work chronicles Thomas James Cobden-Sanderson (1840–1922), English artist and bookbinder of the Arts and Crafts movement. Friend of William Morris, he founded the Doves Bindery and Doves Press, producing landmark letterpress books with the iconic Doves Type, which he famously destroyed in 1916. Cobden-Sanderson was also godfather to Bertrand Russell and maintained lifelong ties to Britain’s intellectual and artistic circles, leaving a lasting impact on book design and craftsmanship. With Royal College of Art bookplate and stamp.
