Anthony’s photography vividly captures the glamour and vitality of pre-war ballet, with subjects including Margot Fonteyn, Frederick Ashton, Anatole Vilzak, Leonide Massine, and Lubov Tchernicheva. Gordon Anthony (1902–1989) was a pioneering British photographer whose work helped establish the international reputation of British ballet in the 1930s. His portraits are held in the V&A and National Portrait Gallery.
