First edition of this economic analysis of Scotland in the quarter-century following the Union with England. Patrick Lindsay (1686–1753) began as an upholsterer but entered Edinburgh politics by the 1730s, serving as Lord Provost (1729–31, 1733–35) and as MP for the city (1734–41).
